At ‘Something Black’, our artists infuse life and creativity into each and every design conceptualized for the fashion-conscious shoppers. We take extreme pride to collaborate with an international group of artists whose designs are handpicked from across the globe.
Well, it’s the first month of our launch and the team at ‘Something Black’ is excited to put the spotlight on Eliúde Valverde, an international artist of great repute. It’s time to go behind the scenes.
Let’s say Hello to Eliúde Valverde, and find out what sets his style apart. We conversed with him and here’s what he had to say.
Ok, so we’ll try to know you better. (Although we know that every artist is like a mystery that needs to be unraveled.)
Eliúde Valverde: I began drawing from my childhood days. As the years passed, this passion took a serious turn in 2004. By the time I was 17 years old, I started working with a communication firm. Today at 29, I continue to work as a freelance designer and illustrator for various firms and leading brands. I am proud to have launched my own advertising agency named ‘Valverde Comunicação’.
So, what’s the inspiration behind your creative process?
Eliúde Valverde: Seriously, this is difficult to explain. And I am sure every artist will resonate this feeling. I cannot explain it with mere words but I can say that films and old songs stimulate my imagination. Sometimes, everything around me messes with my mind. I have a tendency to analyze every detail related to art whenever and wherever I see it.
You have an amazing collection of designs. Do they just flow naturally or do you use a methodical approach?
Eliúde Valverde: Aah! (Smiles) There is no magic formula for this. Every artist knows the creative process cannot be hurried up or cannot be conjured at a particular hour. Creative ideas may flow when I talk to a client or even during a casual conversation with a friend. Shall I tell you a secret? Always be informed and widen your knowledge about world culture. So, be it music, cinema, politics, series, everything! For e.g.: a good movie or a series of vintage preference contributes to the creative process.
Hmm, so artists are moody. Do you often seek solitude for inspiration?
Eliúde Valverde: You nailed it. Yes, solitude in the night always helps for inspiration. I cannot explain this either but I feel something incredible during the silent late night hours as I can reflect upon ideas/things. It is fantastic to be able to go through each step of the process to create an inspiring idea for a project.

Eliúde Valverde:
Social media has certainly changed the way artists can reach out to lovers of art. How does it feel to view your T-shirt designs reaching out all over India via ‘Something Black’?”
Eliúde Valverde: I feel gratitude when I see my designs selling off the shelves in India. It’s indeed a proud moment. India is a fantastic country and I am certain my work will be well-received in this vibrant place. It’s a marvelous feeling! One of the most incredible things is the research involved to know about India. I enjoyed researching about religion, music, culture and the political scenario that widened my horizons to churn out ideas for my target group. It’s a fascinating experience to reach out to design lovers around the world through the medium of Internet.
How about some advice for budding talents?
Eliúde Valverde: Another open secret is to love. If you love design, always give your best shot. You won’t find one magic formula. I’d say it takes a lot of hard work and study. That’s the only way to success.
Hmmm, what if you were not an artist? Where would you be?
Eliúde Valverde: Surely a police officer or a fireman. I am in deep admiration of people who put their lives at risk to save others. Truly inspiring!
